![]() ![]() ![]() This set up pretty much reminded me of Game of Thrones, even though the first five aren't family (except for Iskra and Kethe) with Tharok (the orc) being on a distant journey like Daenerys (though Dany was at least a concern for Ned and Robert while here nobody knows Tharok even exists).Īsho (the guy on the cover) is a Bythian (apparently looks like an elf) and they are considered the lowest kind of people, just one step above Hell in the reincarnation cycle. The first five are tightly bound in the same place (and they are all allied) with Tharok being the distant, unrelated POV. ![]() This is a multi-POV book with six POVs: Asho, Kethe, Iskra, Tiron, Audsley and Tharok. and the most important perhaps, that everything the character believe might be a hoax). ![]() It has familiar things (medieval setting, castle life, knights, familiar races, war, magical swords, religion and custom determining a lot of things) and some explored with new and different angles ("elves" being the lowest class of race, orcs are sentient and are even mercenaries for humans, the portal gates, religion with reincarnation cycles. There's been quite some time since I've read an Epic Fantasy and this just filled that 'void' really well. It's also the 2nd place in the second SPFBO and the book who made pornokitsch lose his sleep in deciding his finalist (the other being the much talked about Senlin Ascends). This was really enjoying and quick to read. ![]()
